New to blogging...

Hello everyone!

This is my first attempt at blogging. So, I am not sure where to begin actually. 

Anyway, I am currently an academic staff in one of the research universities in Malaysia specialising in living anionic polymerisation reactions. Currently, I am teaching statistical thermodynamics to third year chemistry undergraduates.

My intention to use Blogger is to use this space to share contents mostly in the chemical sciences as well as other interests of mine such as trading in the stock market (still quite new to this though 😂).

So, fingers crossed and let's see how my blogging journey goes.

The Curious Relationship between Nasi Beriani Gam and Thermodynamics

Now, who doesn't love dum biryani (or nasi beriani gam as it is called in Malaysia)? Nasi beriani gam is a very popular dish in Malaysia, especially in the state of Johor and many people are absolutely enjoying it. The rich taste of the spice blends as well as the tender chicken/beef/mutton which literally falls off the bone makes this dish delicious and appetising. During my undergraduate studies, my thermodynamics lecturer, Prof. Rauzah Hashim shared her article that was written in 2003 [1] relating thermodynamics with the cooking process of nasi beriani gam . It was an eye-opening article to me as it clearly shows that we can actually relate everyday processes with the laws of thermodynamics. The cooking process involves sealing the cooking pot with a flour paste to prevent water vapours from escaping the pot. In this case, we can consider the sealed cooking pot as a closed system.
